TJ & Ashley Engaged | Miller Outdoor Theater Engagements

8
Feb 2012

TJ & Ashley have been dating for about 500 years…okay more like since they were about 18, going on 5 years now. That’s a long time! Their wedding is coming up this Fall, and they have no doubts about what they want. They both are looking for a unique style to their wedding, so it’s going to be very exciting about what comes of it all!

They were a blast for their engagements, having the time of their lives and completely enjoying our engagement session downtown. They both rocked some cool clothes, her purple dress and his new Tony Lama boots (bough especially for their photos). Way to rock it out guys!

New! The After Session

19
Jan 2012

We’re proud to offer a new addition to the Big Box lineup.

Enter The After Session.

A Two Hour after the wedding session in your Wedding Dress and Suit. After the wedding, after the pressure, informal, & just the two of you. Get ready for some super fun & creative post-wedding photos.

You want one more session to remember your wedding day by. To be able to have just one more set of photos in your dress before it’s preserved, and this will most likely be the last time you get to wear your dress too! Bring out your new husband and we will head out, just the 3 of us, to locations we might not have otherwise gone to. We can disregard grass, pebbled roads, even water.

But we can draw the line where you like it. We can get wet, or stay dry, we can head out to the country, or stick to some sleek urban spots.

You might not want to destroy your dress, but lets have some fun – knowings it’s going to get cleaned later! So we’re going to head out for what you could call “Trash The Dress”, but we’re not going to destroy anything…unless you want to! ;)

Book your after session today. Sessions are 10% off until 2/28/12.

What Should I wear for my Engagement Photos?

2
Jan 2012

Thankfully, I’m a guy & it’s way easy for us. Dark Jeans + 1 dress shirt, and a casual shirt to change into. Done deal.

Girls have it a bit harder though. What do you wear for your engagements? I’ve got some suggestions for do’s and don’ts for you. If you’re only going to be allowed two different outfits make them count. Cover dressy & casual, filling the gaps with accessories.

If possible start your session with dressy clothes. You’ll be the freshest with your hair done up, not sticky & lets face it, getting ready in dressy clothes just takes longer. After those are done you can move to a more relaxed outfit using accessories to close the gap. Use jackets, sunglasses, hats, or different bracelets to change your style without requiring additional outfit changes that cut into your shooting time. That gets you the most bang for your buck!

A jacket is a great way to give more use to each of your outfits

Sometimes it’s beneficial to add in something that speaks to your location.  Recently we took engagement photos at a football stadium (see photos here) and they brought their jackets that supported their favorite teams. Very cool, and it gave them a good something to tie back into the location.

But styles change are changing all the time, and  so should you. Well, you shouldn’t change who YOU are, but you should have the chance to change your clothes during your shoot. That’s how we make it work out too.

Our Engagement Shoots and Senior Shoots both allow for a change of clothes. Want to book a session with us? Click here.

Elvis + Yeny | Engagement Shoot at Robertson Stadium

23
Dec 2011

Elvis & Yeny are one of those couple that just work, and it’s not like any one person is leading the pack. They’re a great team, and I know that’s going to make their wedding very special.

As a Undergraduate from The University of Houston ( and  soon to be Masters Graduate from St. Thomas University of Houston)  Yeny had the hook-up to get us into this stadium on a private pass. We were the ONLY PEOPLE THERE! and had free reign of the entire deal. Great great fun, and the perfect time of day too. We wrapped up engagements at Discovery Green in Downtown Houston. I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and I’ll see you guys soon!

My 15 Favorite Wedding Photos of 2011

15
Dec 2011

I was updating some of my photos the other day and decided to share a few of my favorites with everyone! Have a look, most of these are from Brides of North Texas & Houston. Though we have started to do some destination weddings.

Stay tuned for photos from our recent trip to Las Terrazzas resort in Ambergris Caye, Belize. A very beautiful wedding with Nick & Meredith!

There you have it!

New Coffee Table Albums!

29
Sep 2010

Today marks another great day here at Big Box (well it looks like it’ll be a good day, the sun isn’t up for another hour or so). Introducing Coffee Table Albums we can all afford. Starting at $110 for a 5×5 album. This is no craft store album either. Printed on acid free paper rated to last over 100 years, flush mount (stay with me here, that just means that your images are printed all the way to the edge of the page), and there’s no seam in the middle so we can show images all the way across the page. So so so cool, I wish I had something like this for my wedding. And we’re actually going to be ordering one of these for our 2010 vacation too, good for sitting out in the Living Room to flip through every once and a while.

If you’ve shot with Big Box before then I’ve got your images and we can get this ordered quick! But don’t worry if you don’t have a shoot with us, we’ll get you scheduled within the next 3 weeks and have your album back before thanksgiving!

Get a hold of us here and we’ll send over pricing to you!

What colors should I wear to my engagement shoot?

2
Sep 2010

Okay, I’m going to literally run from dressing for seasonal colors. Except if it’s Christmas time then everybody should bring at least one tacky Christmas sweater – then you’ll be my hero.

Really though, what colors should you wear to your portrait sessions? What outfits are good for photography? I always encourage blue-jeans – because everybody looks good in blue-jeans and they come out great for really saturated photos with deep colors. Then we’ll usually have one outfit change (guys love calling them outfits by the way :) into something a bit more dressy – maybe a button down for the guy and a skirt? It’s absolutely up to you what to wear.

What to avoid.

1. Super matchy outfits. I’m not talking about both wearing black shirts, that’s totally fine. I’m talking about those really overdone outfits, especiallly bright reds. Camera’s can do great things these days, but reds are probably the hardest for a camera to capture, avoid these (they are an okay accent, deep reds are fine – it’s the stop sign red that can make it a bit more difficult.

2. Anything that makes you feel uncomfortable. If you’re wearing very very dressy clothes that maybe you don’t feel the best in then it’s going to show in your pictures. So be true to yourself and wear something you already feel confident in.

3. Be careful with the mini skirt. You’ll be sitting down sometimes so maybe you’ll need to consider where you’re shooting and bring according clothes. I’m all for the mini-skirt (my wife tells me they’re a really big deal), so just think about it a bit before you make that your primary outfit!

Got your clothes ready and want to book your session? Get a hold of me over at www.bigboxphoto.com to book your portrait session now!

Wedding Season – Any Time of The Year?

28
Aug 2010

There’s a lot of talk about wedding season. But do you have to be limited to just a couple months out of the year? You’ll be booking somewhere around 8 vendors (at least) to operate your wedding, why pick the same month that everybody else has picked?

Take a look around and you’ll see that a lot of wedding vendors (wedding photographers and wedding videographers especially) run off-season rates. WHAT?!

Since March and June are the busiest wedding seasons often times late fall is an open invitation for vendors. You can work out special arrangements for extra services even!

Don’t limit yourself by only considering march for your wedding date (though it is beautiful!) because one month ahead or a couple seasons later offer the same beauty in a different way.

Looking for a way to get in touch with a group of vendors willing to work with your wedding date? Use the contact form at www.bigboxphoto.com and we’ll get a list of preferred vendors right back over to you!

Best luck planning brides! And Congratulations!
